Reusable pen aging and lifecycle verification

Reusable devices need evidence across their intended service life, not only when new.

Evidence approachAging and lifecycle statements follow PubMed-indexed studies of reusable injection devices, including the cycle and storage assumptions each study stated.

What the research found

A small study compared 11 new and 11 patient-used reusable pens at 8- and 32-unit doses. Mean differences were small, but the study reported statistically significant differences and several individual 32-unit results below the tested ISO range. The authors called for larger studies.

Engineering interpretationLifecycle verification can include dose setting and delivery after repeated cycles, cleaning, handling, cartridge replacement, storage and environmental exposure. Acceptance criteria should be defined before testing.

Connection to Penacta

For Penacta reusable platforms, the intended number of cycles, service conditions and replaceable-container process should shape verification. This external study is a design input, not evidence for our catalog devices.

Direct answer

What should reusable-pen aging assessment cover

Evaluate the intended lifecycle, repeated dialing and actuation, cartridge changes, cleaning, storage, wear and any performance changes over time.

Decision table

Review areaBuyer action
Cycle countState the number of use cycles the device is expected to survive.
Wear pointsList the parts that wear: thread, click mechanism and cartridge holder.
CleaningDefine whether the user cleans the device, and with what.
Stored conditionAgree the storage and transport conditions the assessment assumes.
